In today's world of healthcare insurance, the consumer and employers are bombarded with many coverage options. Unfortunately, with more choices come more problems. Just deciphering the current insurance language can be a challenge.

For instance, most insurance coverage now pays for at least some complementary Healing eGuide:

• Referral from a covered Medical Doctor.
• Direct coverage of certain complementary care
• Most auto insurance companies pay for complementary care for conditions resulting from an accident.

In addition, many prominent insurance companies are in the process of testing pilot programs which cover various complementary healing modalities.

However, according to Thomas Kuhn, author of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1969, The University of Chicago Press), during a paradigm shift, chaos becomes prevalent, and the greater the chaos, the faster the paradigm is shifting. Chaos forces those backing the old paradigm to recognize and understand what is tearing apart the old paradigm.

What this means is that the insurance companies are more likely to hear what you – the customer – has to say about the coverage. Speak up and let them know what you want.

In the meantime, you need to educate yourself, just as you would before going into any other financial arrangement. Read and understand the literature, and make some phone calls to make sure you understand. Then, and only then, will you be empowered to make the best choices for you.
